Internship report

Intern, January - July 2015

As a graduate in business psychology, my aim was to gain new insights into a consultancy in Human Resources before beginning the process of applying for full-time employment. I decided to do an internship at managerberater – Lukié, Basmann and Partner in Cologne, Germany.

At the modern office in Cologne-Zollstock, I got a warm welcome during my first week. The team of consultants and associates were a great combination of diverse academic backgrounds to work with. With each different project I worked on, I was able to learn so much from each team member.

Among the German and English-speaking projects I participated in, one that stands out particularly is my work with DAX-30 companies where I gained new knowledge in the fields of personnel selection, development, and on-site trainings with clients. One of the responsibilities I took great joy in was preparation and post-processing for several assessment centers in the back office.

As I grew within managerberater and gained experience, so did my team’s confidence in my ability to take on more challenging and diverse tasks. They were there at every step, to answer any questions.

All in all, my work consisted of a good balance of conceptual and operational tasks: I was able to design new diagnostic simulations and tests. I was then able to assist in process of implementing those same simulations and tests, from conducting to post-processing assessments and trainings.

The mentoring atmosphere, and the projects tasked to me were the reasons I extended my tenure at managerberater for an extra three months. These proved to be just as valuable to my growth and knowledge, as the first three months were. The support from my colleagues not only with my duties within the office, but with my job search after completing my university degree was helpful, and for that I am grateful.

Throughout my internship, my performance and opinion was valued, and it was a joy because I got to actively decide which projects I wanted to work on. At the end of my internship, my colleagues provided me with extensive feedback on my performance. Their feedback was affirmation to my strengths, as well as invaluable guidance on areas to optimize my potential in my next career endeavor.

I am thankful for the professional and personal experience during my time at managerberater.
